About the artist
S. M-L McCoy Painted Portraits
I am a self taught portrait artist, and very much a
perfectionist.
As a young girl I was always a people watcher, always
observing what's behind peoples eyes. Being a dark olive
skinned little girl I was nicknamed the little "Dark Garbo" by the
people from my old neighborhood, hence, my e-mail address
name.
Art to me is a very personal expression and is a God given
talent, which is why I was able to teach myself how to do
portraits. I give God all the credit for my work because He gave
me the ability to do it in the first place.
My artwork is able to capture the personality and essence
of my subject and their mood.
The medium I work with is prismacolor pencil. I use many
layers of several colors for my fleshtones, and the overall effect
looks very similar to an oil painting. I prefer this medium because
of all the fine detail work I'm able to do with them.
I am able to paint children, but prefer painting adults
because I enjoy doing people with more character in their faces.
(wrinkles are no challenge)
Later on I'll be adding my other work, some of my Christian
religious art and  my collection of African women, and American
Indian pieces. After they are copyrighted I'll be selling prints of
these to the public.
Thank you for viewing my website
